Air Force 1 Popcorn
It’s been a very long time since anyone has seen a movie in theaters. With digital screenings now the new norm, most fondly recall what watching a movie looked like before COVID. Even Nike is doing the same, though they’re also channeling their frustrations into footwear, creating numerous colorways with hyper-focused inspiration. Here, the Air Force 1 emulates concessions by donning a set of graphics and a color palette that celebrates butter popcorn too much.
For starters, the connection is subtle enough, with the tumbled leather upper dressed entirely in a light cream identical to the popped kernels. White swooshes, midsoles, laces and linings add a slight contrast alongside the dark red hits on both the tongue and heel tab. The latter brandishes the “NIKE” logo made bold like a retro movie, while the former adds the same text over a striped backing similar to the snack containers themselves. Elsewhere, a macro photo of popcorn covers the insole and embossed text hits the gold counter, ending with “Fresh Since ’82.”
